SOFTWARE:
Novell iChain 2.x
https://secunia.com/product/1423/

DESCRIPTION:
A security issue has been reported in Novell iChain, which
potentially can be exploited by malicious people to bypass certain
security restrictions.

It is possible to gain unauthorised access to protected resources
accelerated by an iChain server using SSL Certificate Mutual
Authentication by creating a client certificate signed by any iChain
server's ICS_TREE CA (Certificate Authority).

Successful exploitation requires:
1) Knowledge of an email address or piece of information from the
client certificate that matches an attribute from the eDirectory LDAP
database authenticated against.
2) Certificate Mapping matches an internal user.
3) Accelerator uses auto-created SSL certificate, internally signed
SSL certificate, or externally signed SSL certificate but ICS_TREE
Selfsigned Certificate has been imported to iChains Trusted Root
store.
4) The ability to create a certificate that is signed by a CA in the
iChain's Trusted Root store.

SOLUTION:
The vendor recommends the following when setting iChain up for mutual
authentication:
* Create externally signed certificates for any accelerator using
mutual authentication.
* Never import the ICS_TREE CA Selfsigned Certificate to iChain's
Trusted Root store.

PROVIDED AND/OR DISCOVERED BY:
Reported by vendor.
