DESCRIPTION:
A vulnerability has been reported in EMC AutoStart, which can be
exploited by malicious people to compromise a vulnerable system.

The vulnerability is caused due to an input validation error in the
Backbone Engine ("ftbackbone.exe") when processing values within the
request as pointers. This can be exploited to execute arbitrary code
with system privileges by sending a specially crafted packet to the
Backbone service (port 8042/TCP by default).

The vulnerability is reported in EMC AutoStart prior to version 5.3
SP2.

SOLUTION:
Update to EMC AutoStart 5.3. SP2.
