Red Hat Security Advisory 2013-1814-01
Posted Dec 11, 2013
Authored by Red Hat | Site access.redhat.com

Red Hat Security Advisory 2013-1814-01 - PHP is an HTML-embedded scripting language commonly used with the Apache HTTP Server. A memory corruption flaw was found in the way the openssl_x509_parse() function of the PHP openssl extension parsed X.509 certificates. A remote attacker could use this flaw to provide a malicious self-signed certificate or a certificate signed by a trusted authority to a PHP application using the aforementioned function, causing the application to crash or, possibly, allow the attacker to execute arbitrary code with the privileges of the user running the PHP interpreter.

Red Hat Security Advisory 2013-1307-01 - PHP is an HTML-embedded scripting language commonly used with the Apache HTTP Server. It was found that PHP did not properly handle file names with a NULL character. A remote attacker could possibly use this flaw to make a PHP script access unexpected files and bypass intended file system access restrictions. It was found that PHP did not check for carriage returns in HTTP headers, allowing intended HTTP response splitting protections to be bypassed. Depending on the web browser the victim is using, a remote attacker could use this flaw to perform HTTP response splitting attacks.

Red Hat Security Advisory 2013-0514-02 - PHP is an HTML-embedded scripting language commonly used with the Apache HTTP Server. It was found that PHP did not check for carriage returns in HTTP headers, allowing intended HTTP response splitting protections to be bypassed. Depending on the web browser the victim is using, a remote attacker could use this flaw to perform HTTP response splitting attacks. An integer signedness issue, leading to a heap-based buffer underflow, was found in the PHP scandir() function. If a remote attacker could upload an excessively large number of files to a directory the scandir() function runs on, it could cause the PHP interpreter to crash or, possibly, execute arbitrary code.

Ubuntu Security Notice USN-1569-1
Posted Sep 17, 2012
Authored by Ubuntu | Site security.ubuntu.com

Ubuntu Security Notice 1569-1 - It was discovered that PHP incorrectly handled certain character sequences when applying HTTP response-splitting protection. A remote attacker could create a specially-crafted URL and inject arbitrary headers. It was discovered that PHP incorrectly handled directories with a large number of files. This could allow a remote attacker to execute arbitrary code with the privileges of the web server, or to perform a denial of service. Various other issues were also addressed.

Mandriva Linux Security Advisory 2012-108 - Unspecified vulnerability in the _php_stream_scandir function in the stream implementation in PHP before 5.3.15 and 5.4.x before 5.4.5 has unknown impact and remote attack vectors, related to an overflow. The SQLite functionality in PHP before 5.3.15 allows remote attackers to bypass the open_basedir protection mechanism via unspecified vectors. The updated packages have been upgraded to the 5.3.15 version which is not vulnerable to these issues. Additionally the php-timezonedb packages has been upgraded to the latest version as well.
